Starting at Packsaddle Park and ending at Mehema Bridge, this 13.5 mile stretch of Class II/III whitewater is perfect for the short and wet getaway. Featured rapids are The Gates, Spencer’s Hole, Carnivore, Big Eddie, and Mill City Falls. Add a cliff jump and BBQ lunch, and it’s a perfect day of adventure.
Mossy trees and giant ferns engulf the river as you make your way down the incredible, wild, and scenic North Santiam. It’s hard to believe you’re only 70 miles from Portland! During the course of the season, fluctuating water levels make the North Santiam River very different from early spring to summer. In the spring, with high river flows, the North Santiam River is great for adventurous rafters with experience. As the river level drops throughout the summer, it becomes family-friendly, with kids as young as six joining in. Whenever you go, the North Santiam River is perfect for camping, hiking, and beautiful scenery with an isolated feel.

Whitewater rafting is a wonderful experience when you’re properly prepared. The North Santiam canyon is a beautiful microclimate between ranges, and it’s usually quite nice compared to Portland, OR.
Depending on the weather and time of year, you want to make sure you stay warm, so plan for the worst. On a cold, rainy day, avoid wearing cotton shirts, socks, or pants. Fleece jackets, Wool socks, and synthetic fibers are best for warmth in the water. If you call ahead, you can rent a wetsuit and booties for a small fee. Splash jackets are provided at no additional charge. On a hot day, a good swimsuit and sandals work fine.
Tipping is customary in the rafting industry, so plan to tip your guide (approx. $5 per passenger in your group). Our guides work hard to make sure you have a great river experience, so please share your appreciation!
